Got Gas?

In the last couple months gasoline prices has skyrocket once again, leaving the consumer out of budget, increasing the prices of almost every product due to transportation costs. To make things worst The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acknowledge some miscalculation on the ratings given to the cars, by revising this tables we now know that our cars spend more gas than we though. Strangely for me, the hype around gas prices have not been as high as last year when people complained so much that the conversation of the day was always about gas prices.

fueleconomyguide.jpgThe EPA and other agencies have generated documentation to provide us, the consumers, with tips to save on gas. Visit www.fueleconomy.gov to get valuable information about saving gas, in the EPA ratings revision was stated that now they are counting more aspects of our behavior as drivers to calculate how much gas a car spend. For example, if you are used to drive at 65mph or more, is likely that your gas spending is higher than those who drive slower. The air conditioner use is also a factor that makes a car spend more gas than the usual, weather facts makes our pocket to suffer too.

The reality over all these is that the speed limit on highways is likely to be over 65mph and even with then almost no one drives at the speed limit. The AC, impossible to drive without it, at temperatures over 90 degrees every day and a couple kids in the car is too much to handle. And the weather; who can control the weather? The end result is that is very little what we can do to modify our driving behavior and save some gas. What is your tip or trick for saving gas?

What’s no secret is that a well-maintained car saves you some gas, try to avoid the stopannual_oil_cost.jpg and run traffic situations, your mileage will get better if you take long straight routes with minimal stops. Also, practice some courtesy on the streets; if you are patient and drive carefully you will save gas too. The EPA also revised the rating for Hybrid cars, they don’t perform as well as we all expected but still they are a good bet. The IRS had some tax credits but for vehicles up the year/model from 2006, personally I think these incentives should be kept for at least the next 5 years.

Go green, save gas. Our planet need us and now is the time to act, to find more information visit www.epa.gov. Share your frustrations with the community; leave a comment on this post. Thanks.

  1. Saving Gas Even Without the Hybrid

Having a hybrid car is nice especially these days when the soaring gas prices make going to the pump a torture of some sorts. Hybrids, big for their environmental value, are also big gas savers. But do you really need a hybrid to save on gas?
