PSP Category Rollout

Just when I was getting ready to publish this post, I received a news item on my feedPlaystation Portable saying that Sony unveiled a new PSP which will be available on September. The new PSP is not the rumored PSP2 but a revision of the current one, is 19% slimmer, 33% lighter, has better battery performance, faster loading times for games and movies, and audio/video output. I haven’t seen anything else except for suggestions of three color choices; black, white, and gray. I have the current generation, what follows is my review.

I’ve been using my Playstation Portable (PSP) for a week now and I’m in love with it. It’s a nice piece of equipment, and while I find it kind of big for carrying around all the time the size of the searbudscreen is what makes it very attractive. The main function that I love is the ability to put it to sleep even in the middle of a game and when you go back and turn it on you continue right where you left it. That function by itself makes it worth it the expense; I haven’t yet tried any other feature other than the web browsing.

Let’s face it, the web capabilities are very limited, while it can do full web pages, I find it fast on mobile pages. I started looking at pages I would be surfing if I were on vacation or something, and at least I can get my Google Reader working, my bank account information, emails, and my own website. I haven’t tried yet Google Maps, which would be a great one. The WiFi antenna is an 802.11b, and it moves the pages mentioned before quickly.

I was able to download firmware updates, and demo games, which I think is a killerMetal Gear feature. I would have never bough a game like Syphon Filter (action, shooting game), but because I was able to play a small demo, I really got into it. Other items are available for download like wallpapers, trailers, and music videos (game related). Gaming wise this platform is really god, I got Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and I was stunned with the graphics.

The PSP holds a 4.3-inch, widescreen aspect ratio, capable of over 16 million colors. I wonder if they use the same trick Apple do to their MacBook to achieve colors, a technique called dithering. The PSP CPU is capable of up to 333MHz of power, making games run smoothly. I won’t discuss every single aspect just now, instead I will create a category for PSP and will be making regular posting about the hardware, software, games, and other functionality of the PSP.

Sony PSP PlayGear AmpNot to make my Blog about gaming but to share my experience with my readers about this great piece of technology, so expect more PSP reviews and news in the near future. If there anything you would like me to discuss or to keep an eye on, email me at lumencreativegroup (at) gmail.com. Also, post your own experiences on our forums, thanks.
