Problems With My iPod Touch
Don’t get intimidated by my post title, there are just a few bugs that I have found so far and some annoyances. None of them are going to make walk away from my iPod touch, I absolutely love my little device and I want Apple to fix these bugs as fast as they can.
I got my iPod touch last Thursday and since then I haven’t stop using it, the best way to review a product is to explore every single one of its features, so here we go.
Negative pixels, that was what I read on some other blog, and is in fact what happened to me the second time I try to watch a video on my iPod. I remember playing video with no problems when suddenly every movie or video podcast will have this annoying bright pixels where I’m sure they meant to be black. I fix this by manually turning off my iPod by holding the sleep/wake button on top of the iPod and then turning it back on. Since I did this I haven’t had this issue again, but wanted to mention it so that you know what to do if this happens to you.
Unresponsive touch features, this does not happen all the time but it does happen, I have noticed it more when I’m browsing the web on Safari. Suddenly I try to “click” on shortcuts or trying to type a password somewhere and it does not respond. It does not have to do with the iPod itself because I can still move around, so I guess is a Safari bug. The fix is to go to the home screen and comeback to Safari and then it continues working.
Resetting to Home without me asking, I found that whenever you try to do two things at the same time it resets back to home screen. This is not within one application, I’ve seen it mostly when I’m in Safari and listening to music and the same time. Suddenly it goes back to my home screen with me touching the home button. The music never stops but I have to click on Safari again and continue with what I was doing. This is the last of my problems they all seem to be software related, I hope Apple fix these minor issues soon.
Now lets talk about some annoyances, things that make me mad because they seem to be dumb stuff that Apple missed. Starting with YouTube, what up with the fact what I can’t log in into my account, it makes no sense, I know that not all videos are available but regardless I would like to be able to bookmark videos on my iPod and see them on my account at YouTube. This is something they can fix in the long run and I hope they do.
The calendar feature works great and I’m loving it, what I don’t understand is what it takes from the iPhone that they decided to disable the adding events function. That is just silly, common Apple thing about it, is an iPod touch, give me the opportunity to touch my calendar the way I want. The Photos application works great, but the orientation of my photos is often off. I fix them on iPhoto but it seems like the iPod feeds from the original, not any other copy after that one, let me make sure I specify that I’m using iLife ‘06, maybe iLife ‘08 handle this differently.
That’s about it, but let me mention what is missing, Podcatcher, please Apple, almost every single blogger or podcaster is waiting for this. Notes, I happen to be at an electronics store and wanted to write some Camcorders model numbers to research more about them, I had to go to my contact profile, hit edit and then in the notes section write them. This is absolutely stupid, the notes capabilities will make of these small notes on the go the best feature this iPod touch can have. Other small things are Mail, Maps, and other widgets, only because we know they can work on out iPod touch we would like to have them available but one must admit that they are not necessary.
Hopefully you liked this post, share them with your friends.
