Mac OS X Leopard Available Now

For those of you that were waiting of Apple’s new operating system, the wait is over. You can pre-order Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) as of today and if you bought a Mac anywhere from October 1, 2007, you can upgrade for just $9.95. When I did my usual website check in the morning I notice that the Apple Store was down, immediately started speculating about whatever rumors are out there like a 16GB iPhone, or a Red iPhone. Soon the Apple Store was back up and running announcing the availability of their new “Cat.”

Release date is October 26, 2007, coinciding with rumors websites that were speculating on this date already. Apple have added over 300 new features to its new operating system, some are under-the-hood enhancements but other are causing sensation even though we have only seen previews of it. The ones that have me all excited are Time Machine, Quick Look, and Spaces. Other features like Core Animation, 64-bit architecture, and the new Finder are very welcome.

I have my reserves with Spaces, I hope it works as well as Apple say it will. Especially with features like muting the sound of a space when you go to another, brings a question of what would happen when you are listening to iTunes and switch to another space. Multi-core capability is also another thing that worries me, I have no doubt that the OS will work fine, but what about third party software. I hope that application like Photoshop Elements wont act up on my because of the multi-core functionality.

I was waiting on Leopard to get my new iMac, the wait is over, I’ll be going over my Apple Store this weekend and will report back on how my upgrading experience. One reason I won’t wait until Leopard is bundle is that the upgrade is just $9.95. Second reason is that if something goes wrong with Leopard I will always have the option to downgrade back to Tiger until Leopard is ready. To me that make more than sense, what do you thing of this approach I’m taking. Would you wait until Leopard is bundled? Alternatively, would you buy a Mac right now?
