New MacBook Is Hot

With an interesting move, Apple has release updates to their laptop line of computer. Updating MacBooks across the line and MacBook Pro processor update, this new update to the MacBooks makes them an irresistible purchase these holidays. Interestingly, Apple did not make a big deal out of it, while I think it is a big deal.picture-1.png

One of the most noticeable new feature is the move to Intel SantaRosa chipset, giving the new MacBooks a boost in frontside bus speed to 800MHz. This means that now you can add up to 4GB of RAM making the MacBook a more desirable machine for people that are dealing with photos or some video on the road.

In addition to this improvement comes the graphics chip, the new Intel GMA X3100 runs at up to 144MB of shared RAM. That is 56% more RAM than the previous model, according to Intel this new chip is not only faster but also compatible with new HD-DVD and Blu-Ray media.1

From my experience, you will need at least 2GB of RAM to have your computer running smoothly on operations like virtualization, video encoding, among other graphics intensive operations. Remember that Leopard include Core Animation updates that once implemented you will need lots of graphics power to make use of it.

As for the MacBook Pro the only change was the addition of an optional 2.6 Core2Duo SantaRosa chip, I don’t remember the previous set up so I’m not sure if the NVIDIA Graphics card was updated or not. Either way they are smoking fast, if you have anything to do with HD video editing on-the-go this is the computer you want to consider.

Stay tuned for more great content, if you went and picked up a new MacBook share your thoughts with us. In addition, I set up forums again on my blog and hope to use them regularly, feel free to suggest conversations about anything that has to do with technology. Thanks for reading.

hey lweees (love the domain name you came up with!),
I noticed it today as well. ordered mine 2 days ago. my experience with the tech support (Germany/Ireland) can be read at http://www.h4×3d.com/macbook-updated-by-apple-with-new-video-chip/ (hope the dns resolves right, my server moves from dallas to NY at the moment and cache might be wrong for some folks)

    Pete,

The only difference I would like to point out is the graphics card. The MacBook has an integrated Intel GMA x1300 with up to 144MB of shared memory with the main system, while the MacBook Pro has a dedicated NVIDIA with at least 128MB of dedicated memory.

If you are going to do anything that has to do with video, then go Pro, otherwise the MacBook is fast and economic. Either way you are on the right track.

    Thanks for your info.
I am deciding between the reg. macbook and the macbook pro. I don’t see much of a difference except for slightly better inputs and slightly better performance. i am leaning towards the maxxed out macbook. do you have a an opinion on this?
