TuneCore Gift For You
In an effort to let everyone know about the services offered, TuneCore has a promotion where you can get 34 free songs from iTunes. When I heard about the promotion, I immediately went to their website and hit the “redeem button” on the promotion page. I was excited only to realize that the 34 songs are pre-selected, oh well, 34 free songs are still 34 free songs.
I started listening to all of them, one by one, to check what were good and what not. Not all of them are of my taste but a couple are worth the download, talking about download you should know that all 34 songs starts downloading at the same time once you redeem you code. I think this is a great idea, since most of these singers are practically new, or at least I’ve never heard of them before.
Within my favorites I have Highway to the Sun by The Milwaukees, Higher-ArkAngel by ArkAngel, Everything by Suzy Bogguss, and Living End by Spectre. Not that all the rest are bad, at least 10 more are worth listening to. The others are just not my taste, I encourage everyone to take advantage of this promotion and if you don’t like some of them you can always erase them.
The promotion ends on September 30, 2008, what they don’t specify is if they plan on changing songs during the life of the promotion. This promotion is really cool but who are TuneCore and what they do is something that most people don’t know. TuneCore is a place or any kind of music artist to sell their music, making money without selling their soul to a mayor record label.
I have to be honest, I read a little about their pricing schedule and couldn’t understand it. The magic behind the service is that you can sell your music in different e-stores like iTunes, Amazon, emusic, Napster, etc. You choose where to sell your music and for how long, or something like that. I’m not a musician but if I were, I would be paying attention to this type of ideas.
TuneCore been in business since early 2006 and just now I learn about them. I will be following this startup since I believe that this will be the future of media, independent people helping independent artists. If I was a mayor record label I would start worrying, especially when the RIAA is giving everyone headaches nobody wants.

Good Day Guru, what entice you to post an article on e Gift For You | LwEEs.com? This article was extremely interesting, especially since I was searching for thoughts on this subject last Sunday.
Hey Jeff,
I’m telling you, if I was in a band I will push this idea within my group. This is why I think mayor labels have to re-focus their efforts, take for example how EMI drop their funds to RIAA. This proves how soon things will be changing.
BTW, your bank ROCKS, I like the it so much that I will be buying the album from iTunes today. I heard American Anthems Vol. 1 on iTunes and it really rocks.
Take care,
Luis
Hey man, first, thanks for the kind words about our tune Highway to the Sun. Next, as for Tunecore, they are really the best companies out there for independent musicians. Basically, they allow you to sell your music digitally and don’t take a cut. They simply charge you a setup fee for dealing with all of the different digital retailers. All the money from sales goes straight to the band. Their plan is to make money by signing up as many releases as possible. It is an amazingly forward-thinking model.
