Mac Tip #1: Summarize
Yet one more reason to buy a Mac for your children that are still in school, yet one more reason to max out your credit card if you are in college. Summarize is a software that lives within Mac OS X, it allows you to grab a text from any application (applications that run in Cocoa only) and summarize it to any size you want. No more reading and summarizing, unless you are smart in which case you will still read, use the tool, and read the result for accuracy.
Here are the instructions on how to use this service,
1. Find your source
2. Highlight the text you want to summarize
3. Dig into Apple menu, Services, Summary
4. On this screen scroll left or right and stop at the desired size
5. Copy the result and pasted anywhere you want or can.
Here is a tip for using this services (a tip for the tip,) never trust the service %100. While the algorithm that plays in the background of this application is awesome, is still a machine work. Therefore, you need to do some reading to make sure that your summary is accurate to your content.
I see this tool as a great helper for those students that work and play and scream and sing and dance, you get my point, at the same time. There is always room for improvement, like I said this is all done thanks to an algorithm that guesses the most probable or logical grammar instructions.
