Pink iPod Nano, Pro-Apple!
Last year several bloggers and podcasters starting blogging about pink iPod shuffles seen in Target stores, I was a witness, they had those at my local Target. They had a nice pink ribbon pro Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) and not only the Pink Shuffle was priced at Apple MSRP but they included a $15 iTunes card. I called it a steal, you get to help a non-profit organization, plus you get a $15 gift card at no extra charge, which was a good initiative.
A couple weeks ego, Apple released a pink iPod nano, this time the pink nano is pro-Apple. Don’t get me wrong, I think Apple has done a lot for organizations like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and (product red) The Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa. Pink however, is the color given to products that are pro-BCRF, and since there are some Apple products related to the effort I think it looks bad on Apple from a PR (with PR I mean “public relations”) perspective.
I’m not arguing that every pink or red product in the market from any company should be pro-something, but companies that are into initiatives like these ones should be careful how they handle products like these. The iPod nano was not introduced with the other ones is an added color, it was a decision taken after the last revision of the product, and for what reason, Valentines!
I like the pink nano, I would get it for my wife but we both have iPhones already, I think the product should have been there since the beginning, it just looks bad. I though that some people were going to argument the same thing when Apple released the pink nano, but nobody cares, I do. I wish Apple contributes to the BCRF, even if is a dollar for each pink iPod sold. I think they will sell a lot of these in the upcoming Valentines’ day.
