Hi DD,

I know MS don't need to expand their user base, and you are definitely right on Vista not running on old PCs. You just missed to answer the question, what is the point of Vista Basic?

I still think that they need to work hard on convincing people to use Vista, price drop says it all. One last thing, I know about pirated OS, wouldn't you rather have a base of free limited OS people than a base of pirated Windows copies?

Thanks for stoping by, Luis.

Couldn't understand how not making Windows Vista free would sell more computers. The old systems lying around wont be able to run any version of Vista anyway.

The wont ever make it free because:

(a) They dont need to care about capturing any userbase. They already have plenty.

(b) Why would they let use someone use windows for free? They know their OS is the most pirated software in the history of computing. So they want the users who are using it for free to be guilty. This gives them the added advantage of tightening the noose every now and then derive profits from people who buy to become legitimate users.
