Enterprise Friendly iPhone Available June 2008
Cupertino, CA - Apple, Inc. released a beta version of the iPhone’s Software Developers Kit (SDK) in a presentation given to the press yesterday. There is a great deal of excitement in regards to this announcement, mainly because up to today if you where a business owner your only option for your customers interact with you over the iPhone was by using web applications on the phone’s Internet browser.
An enterprise friendly iPhone is something that has been in talks since the release of the iPhone, some businesses expressed their interest on using the iPhone, but without MS Exchange support, it was just not feasible. Now businesses have the option to incorporate as many iPhones as they want to their MS Exchange mainframe.
Things get better, with the addition of the SDK to the iPhone ecosystem, you now can create applications that suite your business needs, of course, if you don’t have any programming experience you are probably hiring a programmer to do this for you. This brings a lot to the table, businesses can now get creative offering their services using application natively on the iPhone.
Just picture this, you have a photo printing business, something like Wal-Mart or Walgreens photo services, you can new create a native application that will get together whatever pictures you take using your phone and order them for you to pickup in your local store. That’s just a lame example, I think more businesses are going to jump in talking advantage of this opportunity getting very creative.
How can you take advantage of the new iPhone SDK? If you are a small business owner, you need to start thinking what do you offer on your business that could be offered over a mobile device. I heard of people talking how you could order and pay for your latte at the closest Starbucks and have it ready when you walk in the door.
The sky is no longer the limit, I’m starting to think what part of my bookkeeping service or tax service can be offer directly on the iPhone platform, as technology give us new ways to make business, this are things to reflect on. How you think your business could benefit from a mobile application? I’m thinking on creating a forum for business talk, do you think a forum for business talk is a good idea?
