iPhone Currently Unavailable

Technology sites and blogs around the web are reporting that the iPhone is currently unavailable from the Apple Store Online, I had the opportunity to go to my local Apple Store in Florida and ask for iPhone stock and the sales rep told me that they still had a few. With the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) around the corner and the rumors of the 3G iPhone being stronger than ever, some are speculating that we will see the iPhone soon rather than later.

Personally, I have two theories, the first one is that Apple wants to stop people from returning GSM iPhones and they are picking them up and not selling them until the next one comes out. Let say that a generous refund policy allows you to return the iPhone during the first 30 days after the purchase then the iPhone will be coming out on around the second week of June. This is all speculative, no one for sure has a release date while most believe it will be the second week of June.

The problem with this theory is that there are no patent filings of any 3G iPhone so far or that we know off and Apple would need some time to get them down the supply chain. The new iPhone SDK hints of 3G iPhones and people are loosing their heads like this is some sort of surprise. Long time ago both Apple and AT&T leadership told everyone that there would be a 3G iPhone eventually.

My second theory is that Apple spin down GSM iPhones to prevent having a big overhead of phones after the 3G iPhone launch expecting not to sale too many of them and they were wrong. This would mean that Apple must have cancelled a couple of contracts already and the new 3G iPhone is already waiting in some warehouse for its debut. I hope my iPhone is not getting heat stored on some container, which would lead us to believe that the launch is more during the WWDC as opposed to after it.

Regardless of the reasons for not having iPhones available or when the new one is coming out, is sad to see that a product that is less than a year old is already obsolete (I know, its only sad for me that I own one.) Would you be selling your old iPhone to get the new one when it comes out? I won’t unless the new iPhone allows me to use it as a modem for my computer, then that would be a deal breaker for me.

Join me and my community in the following month to follow the steps of the new iPhone, I’m certainly happy with mine but the new one is certainly something very exciting for me.
