Asus Eee PC 900 Available Now

Asus released the Eee PC 900 on schedule to compete with other manufacturers (HP Mini-Note, Acer) that are already releasing ultra-portables. First it was rumored that Asus wanted to wait for Intel’s new chip, Atom, but the Atom is not going to be available until mid summer.

The new Eee PC is showing up in many electronic stores such as Buy.com, ZipZoomfly, and other online stores. I haven’t jet see an Eee PC myself but I’m surely hoping to see one soon, I like the design and the idea of an ultra portable PC. What I don’t like is the 7-inch screen, which is not a problem since the new Eee PC has a 9-inch screen.Asus Eee PC

I think the Eee PC is a great second machine for doing some light things on the go, like reading your RSS reader, maybe writing a post on some light text editor, writing emails, etc. What the Eee PC is not good is for stuff like, a lot of social media, YouTube content, storing large files like videos, even music or anything else that requires a lot of space or processing power, see full specs here.

Other companies are offering their own ultra portable, made me wonder if Palm’s Folio would have been a successful product after all. Right now my ultra portable (kind of PC) is my iPhone. I don’t have the patience to write much on it, but I certainly do a lot of texting and some email, an occasional web research and lots of RSS reading.

If you had the change to pick an ultra portable pc, which would you choose and why? I’m thinking on adding some sort of poll feature on my site to get your input without making you write much, how is that for a good idea.
