iPhone Jailbreak Will Never Stop

With the release of the iPhone SDK some people predicted the end of the Jailbreaking (wiki) era, I don’t think so, this is when Jailbreaking will be more popular than ever. Many developers are working on applications without any assurance of getting to the iTunes Application store, what’s going to happen with all these applications if the get turned down by Apple?Jailbroken iPhone

The process of getting your applications to the App store is not set in stone yet, you have to submit your application and if for some reason Apple thinks that your application is not appropriate you are out of luck. Or are you?

This is when I see the Jailbreaking as an option, many of these applications will end up on a repository where the only people that will be allowed to play with them is the ones that have a Jailbroken iPhone. Naughty applications as well as those that do stuff like file sharing will be among the big list of applications to live on those repositories.

This is just my opinion, I have no proof of anyone tinkering about this yet, but I’m sure that next month they will come out. Probably the same community that we have today for Jailbroken iPhones will ask for this, as they are used to install any application without asking Steve for permission, Jailbreaking will not stop.

What applications you would like to see that you think will not make it the Application store, I’m thinking about several types of application. Application that somehow conflict with Apple ethics or morale, as well as those Applications that provide services Apple does not want in the iPhone, like Adobe Flash.

Since last July many have Jailbroken their iPhones, either to put more applications or to use a different sim card, the main objective always was to free the iPhone. This hasn’t change a bit, today the community of hackers in charge of this techniques have applications that does their job in as little as 3 minutes.

Personally, I don’t like to promote this behavior, which is why I won’t mention any names of individuals or application that does Jailbreaking, but I must add that I do have a deep respect for these individuals.

My short list of applications that I hope make it to the list of approved applications is a mini financial app (ala Quicken) that syncs with the desktop version. A podcatcher for on the go, and games, lots of games, I also want storage space on my iPhone and sharing application to send documents to other iPhone users instantaneously.
