Apple release iPhone 3G

As it was rumored and speculated by many, industry experts and not, the next generation iPhone was confirmed on Apple’s WWDC keynote by Steve Jobs. The device will sport 3G speeds, an integrated assisted GPS, and a new low price starting at just $199.

The new iPhone will come in black for the 8Gb version and a black and a white version for he 16Gb model. That will be it as far as the hardware, the really cool neat stuff are presented actually in a software change that will cover also existing iPhones.

The new iPhone 3G is expected to be released on July 11, and with it the new iPhone firmware version 2.0. These new firmware add lots of new functionality to the iPhone product line including third-party applications.

Firmware changes to the current applications include updates to Google Maps, Calculator, Mail, Contacts search, Scientific calculator, and Calendar. As far as new added features the most notables are the App Store and additional Language support.

The new iPhone will be sold in over 70 countries and the initial roll-out will include 22 of them, analysts expect this release of the iPhone to help sell Apple over 18 million iPhones by the end of the year.
