iPhone Currently Unavailable
Technology sites and blogs around the web are reporting that the iPhone is currently unavailable from the Apple Store Online, I had the opportunity to go to my local Apple Store in Florida and ask for iPhone stock and the sales rep told me that they still had a few. With the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) around the corner and the rumors of the 3G iPhone being stronger than ever, some are speculating that we will see the iPhone soon rather than later.
Personally, I have two theories, the first one is that Apple wants to stop people from returning GSM iPhones and they are picking them up and not selling them until the next one comes out. Let say that a generous refund policy allows you to return the iPhone during the first 30 days after the purchase then the iPhone will be coming out on around the second week of June. This is all speculative, no one for sure has a release date while most believe it will be the second week of June.
The problem with this theory is that there are no patent filings of any 3G iPhone so far or that we know off and Apple would need some time to get them down the supply chain. The new iPhone SDK hints of 3G iPhones and people are loosing their heads like this is some sort of surprise. Long time ago both Apple and AT&T leadership told everyone that there would be a 3G iPhone eventually.
Wireless Connection Speeds
I finally gave up my D-Link router and got an Apple AirPort Express, I waited two years since I originally plan this purchase but it was well worth the wait. I got the latest version of the Apple Airport Express with “N” technology (or draft “n”), none of my computers or gadgets has the “N” specs but I’m just getting ready to the future.
What made me go for the Apple product was the recent purchase of a used PowerBook G4, I try connecting to my D-Link router and I was often loosing connection, which made me very angry. I disconnected the D-Link, which had wireless “G” and four Ethernet jacks to went totally wireless, this has an impact on my Mac mini because up to today it was always connected via Ethernet.
So the main difference is just the speed, my Mac mini was getting great download speeds on some networks and I notice that this has decrease about 40% since I moved to wireless. This got me thinking, how fast is fast enough? My cable service advertise my plan as 7Mbps, that’s only the download speeds, my upload speed is about 300k/bs.
Apple Mighty Mouse Review
Let’s summarize this review on the first paragraph, I don’t know why I waited so long, I regret not buying one before. If you don’t have one and you need a new mouse give Apple Mighty Mouse a try, you won’t regret it. When I got my first Mac, over two year ago, I was using a wireless Microsoft mouse, it worked fine with my Mac mini until it broke. A key got loose or something, I try to open it to fix it and that was the death of it.
After that mouse I got a Logitech mouse, which was not wireless but only lasted like 9 months, it started double-clicking whenever I was trying to single-click. I looked over Logitech forums and apparently this is a flaw in Logitech’s hardware. I went my local Target store and grab one of those mini Microsoft mouse that can holds the transmitter under the mouse for easy travel, it drove me crazy, I blame it this time on the many wireless stuff I have sitting on my desk.
Finally, I read all the reviews on the Mighty Mouse on Apple.com and decided to give it a try, boy why I waited. I’m not saying that this is the perfect mouse, it still has some room for improvements, but it certainly works better than any of the other mouse I had before it.
The first thing I liked is that is an Apple brand and it works great with my Mac mini, its white which holds that Apple design beauty we are all so use to. The cable itself is kind of short, but if you use your mouse close to your keyboard (Apple brand keyboard) this should not be a problem. The scrolling key works fantastically, in fact is the best scrolling wheel I’ve used and its very accurate.
